3:35pm on April 16th, 1853, when a train with 14 railway carriages and 400 guests left Bombay's Bori Bunder for Thane, with a 21-gun salute. It was hauled by three locomotives: Sindh, Sultan, and Sahib. The journey took an hour and fifteen minutes. This was the first commercial passenger service in India. The Palace on Wheels offers an opportunity to explore northwest India's most spectacular sights in the style of the maharajas and maharanis. Made up of 16 period carriages, the train features lounges, two restaurant carriages and double and twin-bedded cabins with en suite facilities, all furnished in classic Rajput style.The train will take you to some of the most interesting cities in Rajasthan, as well as the Taj Mahal.

The Golden Chariot Starts every Monday from Bangalore and traverses through Mysore, Srirangapatna, the Nagarhole National Park, the historical sites around Belur, the World Heritage Sites around Hampi and finally the Sunny beaches of Goa, before it returns to Bangalore. The Golden Chariot has 19 specially designed coaches. The cabins are well-appointed, and feature en suite bathrooms, air-conditioning,Wi-Fi and plasma TV. The train has two restaurants, lounge bar, business facilities, gym, and spa. One of the highlights on board is the performances by local artists in the train's Madira Lounge Bar, the interior of which has been designed as a replica of the Mysore Palace.
It's also possible to travel on the train for shorter durations such as from Bangalore to Goa, Hassan to Bangalore, and Hospet (near Hampi) to Bangalore.

The train consists of two super deluxe suites and 13 deluxe cabins, along with two restaurant lounges, spa, and wireless internet. The interiors of the train really are stunning. The deluxe cabins come with names such as Emerald, Pearl, Ruby and Sapphire, and beautiful rich colour schemes to match.

Departs Wednesday from Mumbai , the Deccan Odyssey is Maharashtra’s only luxury train and is often grouped in a select league of luxury trains including The Orient Express and The Blue Train. In addition, facilities are available for satellite communication, internet access, a computer work station, printer, fax and telephone. A meeting room accommodating up to 50 guests is available on board
